Standard Penetration Test, Boring Hole
We have different drilling equipment to carry out exploratory surveys, with a nationwide coverage of our services. Our team of trained and experienced drillers allows us to obtain the best results in quality, time and form.
For Geotechnical Exploration we have equipment that adapts to any customer’s need nationwide.
We have equipment for portable manual drilling rigs up to heavy drilling rigs such as an Acker AD II, Mobile Drill 61, Long Year 34, Fraste ML Multidrill, Tecoinsa TP 50 and Sterling Drill.
Through Oedometric Consolidation tests we obtain the mechanical parameters of time-dependent deformation, performing One-dimensional Soil Consolidation tests according to ASTM D2435, the Expansion Pressure and Free Expansion Test according to ASTM D4546 and the granular Soil Collapse Test according to ASTM D5333.
In order to know the permeability of the soil on site, we can carry Lefranc type permeability tests of constant flow injection. This test consists of adding water to the borehole and measure the rate of flow within it in equal intervals of time. The methodology of these tests is performed in accordance with the provisions of the CFE 10000-73 specification for constant flow tests.
Lugeon type permeability tests, adequate for rocks, can also be performed, consisting in the injection of water at ascending or descending pressures inside an isolated segment of rock boring and recording the absorption during regular intervals of time. These tests are performed according to the CFE 10000-48 specification.
The Inclinometer is an instrumentation system that allows us to measure the horizontal displacements in slopes and unstable terrains, this test is performed according to the specification ASTM D6230
Laboratory Tests on Altered Samples for SUCS Classification
Our soil mechanics laboratory has the adequate space and equipment to perform all the testing necessary to obtain a complete SUCS classification:

As part of rock coring works, we measure the rock quality designation (RQD) based on ASTM D6032
Once the classification of the rock cores is made, we continued with the performed of mechanical laboratory tests that can be Simple Compression – ASTM D7012 or Point Load Test ASTM D5731
Anchor Pullout Test (CFE C0000-42)
The pullout test for tie down anchor foundations is used to determine the tensile capacity of the foundation tie down anchoring. To carry out an anchor pullout test, we perform the rock boring, borehole cleaning; anchor placement, mortar pouring and pullout testing. The tests are performed according to the 2014 version of CFE C0000-42.
Pile Integrity Test
We can detect possible anomalies in the deep foundation piles, performing the low strain by impact Pile Integrity Test according to the ASTM D5882-07 standard, ensuring the quality of your deep foundation work.
Disturbed and Undisturbed Sampling in Surveys
Exploratory boreholes are performed by the execution of the SPT standard penetration test according to the ASTM D1586 specification, recovering disturbed samples, with a split spoon sampler.
At selected depths, undisturbed samples are taken by means of a thin-walled sampler (Shelby) according to the ASTM D1587 specification for cohesive soils.
For cohesionless soils a thick-walled ring lined sampler (Standard California Type) is used, according to ASTM D3550 specification.
Open Pits and Soil Pits
As part of the Geotechnical Exploration, we also open pits according to the NMX-C-430-ONNCCE-2002 standard, digging a trench with enough size for a technician and / or engineer to descend and examine the different soil strata in its natural state recovering integral, disturbed and undisturbed samples for further laboratory testing.
We also perform Thermal Resistivity, Redox Potential and Pocket Penetrometer and Pocket Torvane testing in the trench according to project requirements.
Plate Load Test
We perform Plate Loading Tests with Repetitive Static Loada in soils and flexible pavement components, for use in the evaluation and design of pavements in airports and roads adhering to ASTM D1195 – 93
Ménard Pressuremeter for Soil and Rock
The Menard Pressuremeter Test is a lateral loading in-situ test, which consists in radially expanding a membrane inside a cylindrical cavity (usually a borehole), with constant increases of pressure or with constant increases in volume.
The results are interpreted to obtain the stress-deformation response of the surrounding material.
The pressuremeter test offers mainly results of deformability and a better aproximation of shear stress strength.
We perform this test according to the French NF P 94-110-1 specification.
We have the Geopac pressuremeter for soft to stiff soils and Hyperpac presiodilatometer for very hard soils to rock.
Engineered Slopes and Natural Hillsides Stability Analysis
Through on-site assessments and laboratory corroborations, EPGC can provide solutions and recommendations for embankment or slope structural design.
Shear Strength Parameters Testing
Our laboratory has equipment and technology to obtain the following resistance parameters. We perform QU Unconfined Compressive Strength Test according to ASTM D2166 specification.
Unconsolidated Undrained Triaxial Test TUU according to the ASTM D2850 specification, Consolidated Undrained Triaxial Test TCU according to specification ASTM D4767, Consolidated Drained Triaxial Test TCD according to the ASTM D7181 specification in undisturbed or reproduced soil samples to obtain mechanical soil parameters. Direct Shear Tests in Consolidated Drained ASTM D3080.
